MMB Dancers at the SERBA evaluation in Montgomery
The Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet has been accepted as a Performing Company into the Southeast Regional Ballet Association (SERBA), one of five regions of Regional Dance America (RDA). RDA is a national association of non-profit ballet companies which serves to promote the artistic development of dance companies across the country.
Twelve MMB dancers, accompanied by Jennifer Beasley and Crystal Skelton, traveled to Montgomery, AL in September 2008 to be evaluated for membership by a jury of 19 SERBA Artistic Directors. The dancers were judged on their technique in ballet class, as well as their performance in two different ballets. The jury then voted whether to accept MMB as an Intern Company, a Performing Company or not at all. The jury voted to accept MMB as a Performing Company, and with this distinction MMB becomes the first company in the state of Mississippi to become a SERBA company.
